Job summary

Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA seeks a Director of Quality and Patient Safety to serve as the facility-based quality leader, overseeing outcomes, accreditation, regulatory readiness, patient safety, and performance improvement.

This role partners with hospital leadership, medical staff, and multidisciplinary teams to advance quality across a 274-bed acute care facility known for nursing excellence, stroke care, and maternity services.

Qualifications

• Must hold Active Registered Nurse license in VA.
• Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
• 5+ years of leadership experience; 5 years clinic management/nursing leadership; 3 years hospital quality leadership preferred.
• Experience with quality improvement, accreditation, regulatory readiness, patient safety, CMS measures.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight for quality outcomes, accreditation readiness, patient safety and performance improvement.
• Lead event review, root cause analysis and medical staff peer review.
• Drive quality improvement programs and regulatory readiness aligned with organization goals.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, Infection Prevention and Risk Management to advance initiatives.

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience required.
• Minimum of 5 years of clinical management and nursing leadership experience required.
• 3 years hospital quality leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Experience leading quality improvement, accreditation, regulatory readiness, and patient safety initiatives.
• Experience with quality event review, root cause analysis, peer review, and performance improvement programs.
• Knowledge of CMS requirements, quality reporting, and healthcare regulatory standards.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with physicians, nursing leaders, executives, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and developing quality professionals.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $146,702.40 - $228,966.40 annually. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs. Note: If an annual salary is posted, it is based on a full-time colleague working 2,080 hours annually. Sentara Leigh Hospital

Located in Norfolk, VA, is a 274-bed acute care facility that opened in 1903 and relocated to its present site in 1977. Our hospital completed a renovation in 2016, including two new patient towers, a beautiful atrium, and a multi-story parking garage. Sentara Leigh Hospital includes a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital providing patients access to a full continuum of orthopedic care, from the preoperative phase and surgery to rehabilitation and home care services. Along with being a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center, and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, we also specialize in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, maternity care, and general surgery. We are also home to the region’s only 24-hour hyperbaric oxygen program that helps speed up the healing of carbon monoxide poisoning, wounds that won’t heal, infections in which tissues are starved for oxygen, airborne chemical exposures, and scuba diving accidents.
