Full Job Description: Director of Public Relations

Salary Grade: Business Grade 11 / BG-11

Position Summary: Working in partnership with the Executive Director of Communications and Strategy, the Director will manage and oversee district-level public relations, social media, messaging, and media relations. The role involves ensuring effective communication with families and stakeholders, supporting school teams with messaging, developing communications on district, city, and state issues, managing media inquiries and events, and serving as a district spokesperson. The Director will also develop and execute social media strategies aligned with the district’s priorities and values.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields
  • Experience:
    • Five (5) years in communications, media, or public relations roles
    • Three (3) years working with traditional media outlets (print, radio, broadcast) or writing for print media
    • Three (3) years managing social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, with success in expanding reach and engagement
    • Experience developing media releases, social media content, and PR collateral, with strong editing skills
    • Experience in an educational setting is preferred
  • Specialized Knowledge: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and social media monitoring software
