Job summary

Vulcan Infrastructure and Power, in Dresden, NY, seeks a Head of Power Plant Operations and Pipeline to lead the safe, reliable, and compliant day-to-day operation of the 106 MW natural gas-fired steam unit and its fuel pipeline. You will own the operating floor, supervise the unionized O&M team, and work closely with maintenance to translate plant capability into consistent power production.

Responsibilities include defining procedures, startup/shutdown sequences, and emergency plans;

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of experience in power plant operations.
• Experience leading and supervising operations teams, preferably in a unionized environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred; equivalent operational experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the unionized operations team - O&M Technicians – Operations (Operator Trainee through O&M Tech 4 / Senior Operator) in staffing, training and performance.
• Direct real-time operation of the 106 MW natural gas-fired steam unit to meet dispatch, efficiency, and emissions targets.
• Oversee day-to-day operation of the natural gas pipeline serving the facility, including reliable fuel supply and regulatory compliance.
• Own operating discipline: develop, maintain, and enforce standard operating procedures, startup/shutdown sequences, and emergency procedures.
• Execute operations safety programs on the floor (LOTO, permit-to-work, emergency response).
• Monitor operational performance using control systems; conduct root cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate with Maintenance to plan outages and returns to service while minimizing downtime.
• Manage operations costs within the facility budget; maintain logs and documentation for reliability and regulatory readiness.
