Job summary

The Town of Elkton is seeking a Director of Planning to lead the Planning Department, guiding land use planning, zoning administration, and environmental stewardship in Elkton, Maryland. The role serves as liaison to the Mayor, Commissioners, and other boards, coordinating with regional agencies to advance the Comprehensive Plan and community goals.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Geography, Public Administration, Environmental Planning, or closely related field.
Minimum of four years of professional planning experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
Experience in zoning administration, development review, comprehensive planning, grants, contract management, and intergovernmental coordination is preferred.

Responsibilities

Administers and oversees the Town Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, and related land use regulations.
Provides guidance to Mayor, Commissioners, and Planning Commission.
Develops and implements planning initiatives, programs, and budgets.
Reviews development and zoning applications for compliance and presents findings.
