Job summary

The Borough invites a Director of Planning and Community Development to lead planning, zoning and lands programs in Alaska. You will supervise the Planning Department, coordinate with other departments and act as Principal Planner and Zoning Administrator for the Borough.

As an at-will employee, you will guide community development projects, review land-use proposals, prepare maps and provide professional advice to the Planning Commission and Borough Manager.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of principles of organization and administration.
• Ability to train, supervise and evaluate staff.
• Ability to develop and prepare clear and concise reports.
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers, staff and public.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize Borough planning, zoning and lands programs.
• Supervise Planning Department personnel and coordinate with other departments.
• Serve as Principal Planner and Zoning Administrator and advise the Planning Commission.
• Develop area-wide land use, transportation and community development plans.
• Prepare maps and graphics for reports, grants and meetings.
