Position Purpose :
The primary purpose of the Director - Payroll position is to act as a subject matter expert responsible for managing all payroll processes, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role oversees the preparation and disbursement of payroll outputs and partners closely with internal stakeholders including finance, HR, and employees to disseminate payroll information accurately and timely.
Job Requirements :
- Manage day-to-day payroll operations for multi-state payroll, including disbursement of garnishments, benefits, and taxes, in compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Coordinate with accounting to ensure timely funding of payroll outputs.
- Ensure adherence to governmental reporting and regulations, maintaining sound control processes to protect company assets, and advise management on necessary actions.
- Oversee multiple payroll audits (e.g., 401k) and maintain effective relationships with external agencies and vendors, including IRS, auditors, and others.
- Sign off on quarterly and annual payroll tax filings.
- Mentor, manage, and supervise the centralized payroll team.
- Develop and maintain process maps and documentation for payroll processes, implementing controls and checks.
- Collaborate with the ERP team on Workday Payroll upgrades, maintenance, and enhancements.
- Oversee payroll activities related to account reconciliation, variance analysis, accruals, and journal entries.
- Manage pay inputs and processing for the Executive Team.
- Develop and audit controls to ensure compliance as the department grows.
- Maintain communication and strong relationships with HR and Finance to review cross-departmental impacts and data sharing.
- Recommend and implement best-practice operational changes.
- Promote collaboration among the payroll team and stakeholders to provide high customer service levels.
- Monitor staff appointments, transfers, promotions, and terminations within payroll.
- Prepare payroll reports for management, HR, finance, and government agencies on various schedules.
- Lead payroll integrations to reduce errors and automate tasks.
- Generate payroll reports for operational purposes.
- Continuously improve processes to reduce time and costs while maintaining accuracy.
- Handle escalations and urgent requests.
- Audit and review payroll invoices.
- Participate in special projects as assigned.
