Job summary

HCA Florida Largo Hospital is seeking a Director of Patient Safety to lead a culture of safety and drive proactive risk reduction. This role develops strategic and operational plans for a comprehensive patient safety program and partners with leadership to sustain learning and safe systems.

The ideal candidate will have CPPS certification within one year, 3–5 years of experience in patient safety or quality, and strong expertise in RCA, FMEA, and rapid cycle improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare related field required
• CPPS certification within one year of hire
• Three to five years relevant experience in patient safety, risk and/or quality
• Experience with electronic health records and reporting systems preferred
• Knowledge of patient safety science principles, theory, methods, standards and regulatory requirements
• Strong leadership qualities and experience with patient safety analysis techniques (RCA, FMEA)
• Knowledge of rapid cycle improvement theory, patient safety science and human factors

Responsibilities

• Initiate and oversee proactive evaluation and redesign of systems to prevent future errors.
• Implement information and management systems that support patient safety and use data from multiple sources.
• Oversee and coordinate investigation of serious events and internal/external reporting.
• Facilitate and coordinate participation in Risk Reduction Program components.
• Guide facility leadership to promote learning, open environment, and safe systems, including Patient Safety Rounds and Event Response

We are seeking a Director of Patient Safety. As Director, you will provide leadership and direction in developing a culture of safety and in identifying opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety. You will also develop strategic and operational plans to build prospective, proactive, loss-prevention and harm-reduction patient safety program. Responsibilities

• You will initiate and oversee proactive evaluation and redesign of systems to improve care processes to prevent future errors.
• You will implement information and management systems that support patient safety and use information from different sources to support the activities of the patient safety program.
• You will oversee and coordinate the investigation of serious events and incidents as well as the internal and external reporting of those events.
• You will facilitate and coordinate participation in Risk Reduction Program components.
• You will guide facility leadership in activities that enable and sustain an open and fair environment that promotes learning, safe systems, and appropriately, managing behavioral choices related to patient safety (e.g. Patient Safety Rounds, Event Response, and Disclosure).

What qualifications you will need:

• Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare related field required
• CPPS (Certification in Patient Safety) (within one year of hire); Must also meet/comply with state requirements as applicable
• Three to five years relevant experience in patient safety, risk and/or quality; Experience with electronic health records and reporting system preferred
• Knowledge of patient safety science principles, theory, methods, standards and regulatory requirements
• Strong leadership qualities (task completion, motivation, organization) Knowledge of and experience with patient safety analysis techniques, including root cause analysis, cause and effect analysis, and failure mode and effect analysis
• Knowledge of rapid cycle improvement theory, patient safety science and human factor principles
• Advanced computer skills with word processing in database competency
