Position Summary
The Director of Nutrition Services is responsible for the overall management of the school district’s child nutrition program in accordance with Opaa! policies, procedures, client policies, and governmental regulations. The Director acts as the liaison between Opaa! and the school district by managing the program efficiently, maintaining relationships, overseeing the kitchen team, and ensuring compliance. The role also involves demonstrating and promoting behaviors aligned with Opaa!’s Core Values: 1) Acting in the best interest of students, schools, and communities; 2) Honesty; 3) Passion for service; 4) Commitment to continuous improvement.

Operations

  1. Ensure seamless daily kitchen operations, including menu review, food quality, cleanliness, safety protocols, and HACCP compliance.
  2. Maintain accurate production records and ensure reimbursable meals meet required standards.
  3. Monitor tray counting policies and operate within cost parameters for food, waste, labor, and supplies.
  4. Ensure timely meal production and service, maintaining quality standards.
  5. Address food quality and service complaints to promote excellent customer service.
  6. Coordinate transportation of meals to satellite locations as applicable.
  7. Follow menus and recipes according to Opaa! guidelines and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
  8. Document and report maintenance issues and take daily pictures of entrees for quality assurance.

Supervisory

  1. Conduct regular meetings with Kitchen Managers and daily staff huddles.
  2. Participate in leadership meetings and implement relevant actions.
  3. Manage staff performance, including hiring, training, scheduling, and addressing issues promptly.
  4. Support staff development through cross-training and certification.

Compliance

  1. Ensure adherence to recipes, menu plans, HR policies, and federal labor laws.
  2. Complete onboarding, maintain employee files, and ensure safety and health regulations are followed.
  3. Participate in required training and maintain documentation.

Client Relationships

  1. Establish effective communication with district officials and foster positive relationships.
  2. Prepare reports, attend meetings, and promote program benefits.
  3. Lead community engagement and wellness initiatives.

Administrative

  1. Manage participation metrics, costs, inventory, and procurement.
  2. Ensure accurate record-keeping, reporting, and compliance with regulations.
  3. Handle hiring, payroll, and other administrative tasks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; certification of education must be provided at hire.
  • Minimum three years of relevant food service experience; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, computer skills, and customer service.
