Job summary

NYC Health and Hospitals seeks a Director of Nursing in Queens to lead the Nursing Department, implement policies, and ensure high-quality patient care. This executive role requires transforming nursing services in a dynamic health system.

The position manages staffing, budgets, and education programs while aligning with hospital goals and compliance requirements. A strong clinician with strategic vision will drive improvements and foster collaboration with colleges and other agencies.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration required.
• Minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital.
• Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.

Responsibilities

• Develop, establish, and implement the philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of the Nursing Department.
• Organize the Nursing Department to delineate authority, functional responsibilities, and lines of communication.
• Determine staffing requirements in relation to patient care standards and develop procedures to maintain an adequate nursing staff.
• Maintain a system of continuing evaluation of nursing service provided for patients.
• Maintain up-to-date policy procedure manuals for all nursing units and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Establish an effective system of clinical and administrative nursing records and reports.
• Direct the preparation of the personnel, equipment, and supply budgets for the Nursing Department.
• Direct the development and implementation of orientation, training, and continuing education programs for nursing personnel.
• Initiate and participate in studies and research projects to improve patient care and administrative services.
• Plan for and coordinate the use of clinical facilities by colleges and other agencies for nursing education purposes.
