Job summary

Berkley East Healthcare Center in Santa Monica, CA seeks an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our Clinical/Nursing Services and ensure high-quality resident care in a premier skilled nursing facility. The DON will plan and direct operations, develop policies, supervise staff, and collaborate with administrators to meet regulatory standards while fostering a respectful, patient‑centered culture.

Qualifications

  • Valid state RN license in good standing with CPR and BLS certifications.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; five years’ experience may substitute for a 4-year degree.
  • Minimum three years’ supervisor experience in a hospital, nursing, or related facility.
  • Minimum six months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
  • Experience as Director of Nursing in a Skilled Nursing Facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the nursing service department to meet regulatory standards.
  • Develops and updates written policies and procedures governing daily operations.
  • Evaluates processes and implements quality improvement and compliance programs.
  • Maintains outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Leads by example, supporting staff with kindness and professionalism.
  • Ensures staff comply with standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains and improves quality of patient care and standards of care.
  • Interviews, hires, trains and manages employees.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work, with performance reviews and discipline as needed.
  • Addresses patient, family, and employee complaints with documented solutions.
  • Coordinates care services and implements care plans to maximize quality of life.
  • Conducts regulatory compliance rounds and quality assessments.
  • Develops staffing plans to meet direct care needs and compliance requirements.
  • Maintains training materials to help staff understand compliance requirements.
  • Audits clinical records for accuracy and comprehensive resident assessments.
  • Leads and participates in meetings and interdisciplinary conferences to develop care plans.

Seeking experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to join our team at Berkley East, a premier skilled nursing facility located in Santa Monica.

Position Summary:

Plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Clinical/Nursing Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our industry, and as may be directed by the Administrator and/or Medical Director, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

  • Develops, maintains, and periodically updates written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department
  • Evaluates department process making recommendations and implementing compliance and quality improvement policies, programs and procedures
  • Outstanding communication (oral and written) skills
  • Leads by example, working alongside staff members and treating them kindly and professionally at all times and in all circumstances
  • Ensures all clinical/nursing personnel comply with established standards, practices and regulatory requirements
  • Maintains and improves as needed the quality of patient care and standards of care
  • Interviews, hires, trains and manages employees
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work, conducts reviews, delivering discipline and or rewards as appropriate
  • Addresses patient, family and employee complaints, documenting issues, solutions and resolving problems
  • Coordinates care services, and the implementation of care plans ensuring the best quality of life possible and for all patients/residents
  • Conducts quality assessments including regulatory compliance rounds, in all departments to monitor performance and continuously improve systems, processes and quality
  • Develops staffing plans that assure direct care needs are met, recommending quantity and types of personnel necessary to maintain compliance with all requirements, and PPD
  • Maintains reference database or other training materials (i.e., PDR'S, Regulations, Standards of Practice, etc.) to assist the department in understanding compliance requirements and empowering them to meeting the day-to-day needs of the residents
  • Audits clinical records for accuracy and completeness of comprehensive resident assessments, effective documentation reflecting resident responses to interventions and consistent implementation of plans of care by all staff and professionals, on all shifts
  • Leads/Participates in various company meetings and interdisciplinary conferences as needed to develop adequate plans of care
