Job summary

Qualifications

• Current state licensure (RN or LVN) required.
• Completed nursing program or equivalent required.
• Current Basic Life Support certification.
• Strong educational and organizational skills.
• Previous long-term care experience with direct resident care and education.
• One year of direct resident care in LTC and one year in planning/ evaluating educational programs.

Responsibilities

• Establish Staff Development Department goals and objectives.
• Conduct orientation program for all unit employees per State and Federal long-term care regulations.
• Maintain current DHHS-approved programs for CNAs orientation and in-service training.
• Coordinate 24 hours of in-service education annually for CNAs on all shifts.
• Coordinate ongoing in-service education for nursing staff and support staff.
• Coordinate staff competency programs per Federal and State standards.
• Develop annual education and in-service calendar per regulatory standards.
• Maintain staff education profiles and records of competencies.
• Conduct monthly Mock Code Blue drills on the SNF Unit, across all shifts.
• Assist CNAs with recertification with the Department of Health Services.
• Provide clinical supervision and guidance to nursing assistants.
• Conduct clinical rounds to identify problems and establish educational programs.
• Participate in staff meetings to discuss effectiveness of programs.
• Perform needs assessments and deliver programs to meet identified needs.
• Provide in-services to address deficiencies noted during surveys.
