Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Head Start centers are seeking an experienced supervisor to lead Early Childhood classrooms and ensure adherence to Head Start Performance Standards. The role includes overseeing day-to-day operations, staff coaching, and aligning programming with Ojibwe culture and language goals.
The position requires supervisory experience, a degree in early childhood education, a valid Minnesota driver’s license, and compliance with licensing and safety protocols.

License/Certification Requirements: Valid MN driver’s license is required. CPR and First Aid certification or attain within introductory period.
Summary: R esponsible for ensuring that the classrooms contribute to the growth and development of each child. Guides the planning and implementation of a comprehensive child development program that meets or exceeds the Head Start Performance Standards. Responsible for the day to day operations of the ECD Classrooms in assigned center.
Education Requirements and Experience:
Possess a minimum of an AA or BA degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
Supervisory experience within the past two years is preferred.
Experience working with pre-school children is preferred.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Excellent attendance and punctuality is a must, maintaining a monthly average of 90% or greater, including tardiness.
Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills.
Must possess an understanding and sensitivity to the culturally specific needs of Native American children and their families.
Must possess word processing and computer skills.
Must have the ability to multi-task and work in a team environment.
Able to manage time & resources well and to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Must be willing to submit to pre-employment and random drug testing.

An initial physical exam is required and every 2 years thereafter and Mantoux (TB) upon hire and every 5 years thereafter
Must meet the Leech Lake Licensing Standards.
Ability to travel in and out of the state.
Attend all mandated trainings required by Head Start Performance Standards. 5)
Leech Lake Center Based Licensing training requirements completed annually.
A professional development plan is required as well as meets all the annual mandated training/safety requirements.
Possess an understanding of the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and child development for children 0-5yrs.
Supervisory Duties:
Supervision of classroom staff in HS/EHS to ensure compliance with: Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Personnel Policies, Head Start Performance Standards, Leech Lake ECD Goals and Objectives, Leech Lake Early Childhood Policies and Procedures, and Leech Lake Child Care Licensing requirements.
Issue progressive disciplinary action when warranted.
Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment in the classroom for children, staff, and families.
Provide role modeling, support & mentor teaching team towards quality programming, including CLASS Dimensions.
Ensure all classroom staff maintains an 85% or greater avg. monthly attendance.
Responsible for ensuring assigned staff utilizes the electronic timekeeping system.
Responsible for the approval of work hours, necessary adjustments and documenting reasons for adjustments in the electronic timekeeping system for all assigned staff.
Conduct weekly staff meetings-keeping communication open and giving positive feedback as needed.
Supervision of the classroom environment, including teacher/child ratios are met.
If assigned to an outlying center, the Team Leader maybe required to supervise Head Start and Early Head Start staff and be responsible for the Early Childhood facility and all daily operations.
An outlying center Team Leader will report any health & safety issues and any building issues to the appropriate content area manager.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Administrative:
Work with management and program staff in the implementation of policies and operating procedures based on regulations and guidelines.
Make and document recommendations regarding personnel issues in a timely manner and notify Education Program Manager to staff attendance/absenteeism concerns.
Engage in ongoing program assessment & monitoring to ensure quality services are being provided.
Prepare weekly online lesson plans, material needs, monthly newsletters, & calendars.
Ensure that all information and reports are thoroughly recorded and submitted in a timely manner (field trips, nutrition request, TSG data entry, etc.).
Complete student records and reports accurately, reports include: running logs, observations TSG (individual student progress information) data entry, incident/accident forms etc.
Classroom:
Ensure classroom environment is sanitary, organized and inviting.
Provide and deliver developmentally culturally and linguistically appropriate learning experiences in language, literacy, mathematics, social and emotional functioning, approaches to learning, science, physical skills, and creative arts.
Implementing Creative Curriculum and Ojibwe Culture and language into the classroom.
Promoting Head Start School Readiness Goals in the lesson plan and daily activities.
Work with Education Program Managers, Center Supervisor, Ojibwemowin Mentor, Curriculum and Data Coordinator and Practice Based Coach on recommended areas of improvement through coaching and assist with corrective action plans that reflect the individual needs of staff and/or team.
Mentor, assist, and guide teaching team with necessary requirements.
Ensure that developmentally appropriate practices and guidance are utilized.
Effectively mainstream children with special needs into the program and utilize DAP & guidance.
Implement plans for each student by using developmentally appropriate activities and modify lesson plan to children’s needs.
Include culture and language into the classroom activities and promote use in the home, including sign language.
Have a basic understanding of how children learn a second language.
Conduct parent/teacher conferences in December and February.
Ensure positive supervision and interaction by teaching staff of all children at all times, including during outside, bathroom and tooth brushing.
Attend IEP meetings on children or designate child’s teacher to attend.
Document and Date anecdotal notes, on the needs of each child and develop an individual education plan that assesses the needs of each child, entering documentation and data into the TSG online system on a weekly/biweekly basis.
Complete all required TSG Courses.
Using the information from TSG system for planning within the classroom including the environment, indoor and outdoor activities.
Maintain a healthy emotional climate in the classroom setting.
Provide a learning environment with rich adult/child interactions.
Family Support:
Work with other program staff as a team to meet the needs of the families.
Work together with parents to help children strengthen and preserve their language and culture, while acquiring skills needed to participate.
Encourage involvement of the families of children in ECD and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
Support families by sharing information on child development issues, child guidance and ECD program plans.
Conduct and document a minimum of 2 home visits annually, with additional home visits as necessary.
Implement activities and assess the progress of developing skills, (child outcomes and school readiness goals) with families.
Attend parent meetings as scheduled.
CACFP:
Ensure the Daily Attendance is taken each morning.
Ensure the meal count is taken at point of service.
Ensure the tally of the monthly attendance/meal counts are correct.
Be knowledgeable in CACFP meal service, meal pattern, menu planning and family style service.
Be knowledgeable in CACFP food chart, portion sizes and creditable meals.
Be knowledgeable in CACFP Diet Statements (allergies), and parent decline form have on file for participants who cannot follow the meal pattern.
Be familiar with the monitoring site form and requirements.
Attend CACFP annual training for key staff and refresher courses as necessary.
General Responsibilities:
Work cooperatively as a member of a team promoting team work with co-workers.
Follow the recommendations of administrative staff when program improvement is needed.
Promote Early Childhood philosophy and mission statement among staff, families and communities.
Periodically make presentations as requested.
Attend program activities outside-normal working hours.
Engage in ongoing assessments to ensure quality of services is being provided.
Attend and conduct all mandatory meetings and activities.
Assist the program in any other appropriate way after necessary duties are completed.
Be familiar with current Head Start Performance Standards, Early Childhood Policies and Procedures and the Leech Lake Child Care licensing requirements.
Shared general housekeeping of classroom with other staff members.
Assist with transportation of children to and from Head Start centers as required.
Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
Responsible for keeping work area neat and orderly.
All other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
