The Director of Nursing is responsible for the nursing program within the community in accordance with professional practice standards, community policies and procedures, Quality Improvement guidelines, UCH programs, and local, state and federal guidelines; and assuming the responsibilities of the Administrator in their absence.
Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Must be able to perform all duties expected of a Registered Nurse in a long term care setting
- Utilizes established standards/criteria to oversee resident care services
- Assesses, plans, evaluates the implementation of community and UCH programs, policies, procedures and forms
- Assesses, plans, evaluates care delivery systems, by monitoring resident outcomes, compliance with Quality Improvement Standards and State, Federal, local regulations and other agencies
- Assesses, plans, evaluates resident care delivery in meeting family needs and addressing concerns
- Maintains an "on call" status for emergencies on a rotating basis with other supervisory nursing personnel
- Oversees the professional nursing staff in the development, coordination and implementation of the resident's treatment plan
- Oversees the proper execution of nursing procedures, including NG/tube insertion, colostomy care, Foley catheter care, Texas catheter application, straight catheterization, tube feeding, and related assessments and monitoring
- Ensures dietary recommendations are followed, monitors resident weights, and assesses for complications
- Administers assessments and emergency procedures as necessary, including oxygen administration, suctioning, CPR, and use of the ambu bag
- Demonstrates expertise in care of patients with central lines and monitors for related complications
- Collaborates with dietitians and oversees nutritional care of residents
- Reviews medication documentation, treatments, and completes reports as needed
- Ensures accuracy of residents' charts and compliance with policies
- Interprets policies and procedures to staff, residents, visitors, and agencies
- Conducts investigations related to resident rights and abuse allegations
- Ensures care plans are followed and staff are informed
- Participates in interdisciplinary care planning and discharge planning
- Promotes relationships with community agencies and participates in community health programs
- Ensures policies reflect current practices and communicates trends to management
- Participates in staff development, quality reviews, and infection control
- Ensures proper staffing and monitors staff performance, providing feedback and recognition
- Sets objectives aligned with organizational goals and fosters a culture of excellence
- Follows HR guidelines, empowers employees, and maintains security and confidentiality
- Attends meetings, updates procedures, maintains records, and participates in budgeting
- Handles emergencies and maintains effective communication with residents and families
- Follows safety guidelines, participates in training, and performs administrative duties
- Performs other duties as assigned

Skills & Abilities
- Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Experience: At least four years in long-term health care, with two years in nurse management
- Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office, Internet, and office equipment
- Certifications: Active RN license, CPR certification, and ongoing education
- Other Requirements: Ability to work with elderly residents, families, and staff; adherence to policies
