A growing power generation organization is seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead mechanical and structural engineering for gas turbine power plants serving data centers and industrial customers. This role oversees gas turbine package engineering, refurbishment requirements, balance-of-plant systems, emissions control equipment, and structural design.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in power generation, gas turbine overhauls, and engineering team leadership. The position is remote, with travel up to 30% for refurbishment facilities, vendor inspections, and project sites.
Lead mechanical engineering for gas turbine packages, including combustion systems, hot gas path components, inlet and exhaust systems, lube oil, and fuel gas systems.
Establish technical requirements and acceptance criteria for gas turbine inspections, overhauls, refurbishment, and equipment restoration.
Review inspection findings, including borescope and nondestructive testing results, and determine appropriate technical dispositions and root causes.
Provide engineering support for mechanical issues identified during refurbishment, field operations, and commissioning.
Oversee balance-of-plant systems, including fuel gas conditioning and compression, cooling systems, fire protection, compressed air, and water or steam injection.
Direct the design and integration of emissions control equipment, including SCR systems, ammonia systems, exhaust ductwork, and stacks.
Oversee structural engineering for foundations, equipment supports, anchorage, and dynamic analysis.
Manage civil and structural engineering consultants and support transportation and heavy-haul planning.
Develop mechanical specifications, review vendor submittals, and establish technical acceptance criteria for equipment inspections.
Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of mechanical and structural engineers.
Collaborate with electrical, controls, systems, and operations teams to support successful project execution.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
15+ years of power generation experience, including at least 5 years leading engineering teams or projects.
Extensive experience in gas turbine and power plant mechanical engineering, including equipment overhaul or refurbishment.
Experience with gas turbine inspection findings, technical evaluations, root cause analysis, and refurbishment acceptance criteria.
Strong understanding of balance-of-plant equipment and mechanical system integration.
Excellent leadership, communication, and technical problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate technical risks and recommendations to executive leadership and customers.
Authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored visa support.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience with heavy-duty or aeroderivative gas turbine overhauls and refurbishment.
Familiarity with GE heavy-frame gas turbines and associated mechanical systems.
Experience with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions control systems.
Knowledge of foundation design, structural supports, anchorage, and machine dynamics.
Experience establishing refurbishment scopes, inspection requirements, and equipment acceptance standards.
Review outstanding refurbishment findings and engineering dispositions across active projects.
Establish standardized mechanical work scopes and acceptance criteria for applicable gas turbine frames.
Identify foundation and structural engineering data gaps for project sites.
Competitive compensation and benefits commensurate with experience.
