Job description

This on-site leadership role focuses on optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring operational efficiency, and managing the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS). The Director will guide Operations Managers, Manufacturing Engineering Leads, and the Facilities Manager to ensure that manufacturing practices meet regulatory standards and align with company goals. This position requires travel between domestic and international sites and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following key areas: (Other duties may be assigned.)

Compliance and Safety:

  • Support the Safety Manager and Quality System and Regulatory leaders to ensure that all manufacturing activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements (FDA, OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain protocols to ensure safety, environmental compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain a world class approach to workplace safety and quality systems, including ISO certifications and continuous improvements.

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Develop and mentor a high-performing team of Operations Managers, Manufacturing Engineering Leads, and the Facilities Manager.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration to drive problem-solving and innovation.
  • Lead performance management initiatives, including setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Develops training and personal development for direct reports.

Cost Management and Financial Oversight:

  • Lead efforts to manage and optimize COGS through effective resource allocation and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Develop and execute financial plans in cooperation with company leadership, including budgeting for capital projects and operational costs.
  • Drive strategic initiatives that reduce waste, enhance productivity, and optimize resource utilization.

Manufacturing Operations Leadership:

  • Provide strategic oversight and direction to Operations Managers to ensure efficient and safe production activities.
  • Establish and monitor key performance metrics related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost management.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Order Fulfillment to align production schedules with customer requirements and supply chain constraints.
  • Lead cross-site standardization of best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Engineering and Technical Leadership:

  • Guide the Manufacturing Engineering Leads in developing robust manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment standards.
  • Oversee engineering projects, including process optimization, new product integration, and insourcing initiatives.
  • Maintain oversight of programming functions managed by Manufacturing Engineering Leads.
  • Responsible for tracking of manufacturing engineering projects per departmental metrics, and for translation of those metrics into individual objectives for direct reports.

Facilities and Maintenance Management:

  • Support facility-related compliance with relevant regulations (OSHA, NFPA, NEC, EPA) and industry standards (ISO 13485).
  • Oversee the Facilities Manager in maintaining plant facilities and equipment, including preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Reviews, provides guidance and support on negotiation with maintenance service contracts to obtain the best services for the optimum prices.
  • Ensure that capital projects, building renovations, and utility upgrades are executed efficiently and within budget.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering from a four-year college or university and/or a master's in business administration; and a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Leading a multi-site operation is required.
  • Experience in a regulated industry (FDA, FAA, or OSHA PSM) is required.
  • Experience in the manufacturing of composite devices is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Proven experience managing multi-level BOMs and working with Infor ERP or SAP (preference for Infor XA).
  • Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing management, process improvement, and cost optimization.
  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrates design, documentation, project management, process management, and troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
  • Understands and deploys the appropriate project management technique for the project being deployed. For example, Scrum for development type projects; capital project management for equipment based projects; Six Sigma for variation reduction projects; and Lean Manufacturing for quick continuous improvement projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present data and insights to senior leadership.
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale projects and prioritize resource allocation effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP systems.

Travel

Most of the work will take place in Pennsylvania. Approximately 30% of the time, travel will be required to vendors, suppliers, and the other manufacturing locations both domestically and internationally.
