Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Major Project Director to lead a multi-billion-dollar generation project. You will oversee safety, schedule, budget, and commercial performance while coordinating with EPCs and contractors on-site.

You will align stakeholders, regulators, and customers to ensure successful project delivery. The role requires a PMP or equivalent, a strong track record in large-scale energy projects, and exceptional leadership, communication, and risk-management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience in major construction/projects.
• Experience in two or more areas: major construction, project management, portfolio management, commissioning, controls, nuclear or fossil generation, and contract negotiations.
• PMP certification required.

Responsibilities

• Own overall project execution including directing and overseeing project management functions.
• Implement and oversee the project safety program and achieve Zero Harm.
• Report on project strategy and team needs to Generation Executive leadership.
• Establish project contracting strategy and negotiate EPC and engineering agreements.
• Drive integrated schedules across all workstreams and manage budget and contingency.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; manage executive risk register.
• Lead project change management and resolve disputes.
• Build and mentor a high-performing project leadership team.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with utilities, regulators, landowners, and contractors.
• Ensure readiness for regulatory filings and potential Certificate of Convenience and Necessity.
