The Part 135 Director of Maintenance (DOM) is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the maintenance program for the company's Part 135 operations.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with FAA Part 135 regulations and manufacturer specifications.
- Oversee adherence to the company’s General Maintenance Manual (GMM) and ensure all documentation meets regulatory requirements.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the FAA and other regulatory agencies for maintenance matters.
- Manage and maintain compliance with Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and Service Bulletins (SBs).
- Ensure aircraft logbooks are accurately updated, organized, and securely maintained. This includes verifying entries for compliance with FAA regulations, recording maintenance and inspections promptly, safeguarding logbooks, and conducting periodic audits to ensure airworthiness and regulatory readiness.
Maintenance Program Management:
- Develop, implement, and manage the company’s maintenance programs, including inspections, repairs, and modifications.
- Ensure all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance is performed in a timely manner to minimize aircraft downtime.
- Oversee the tracking of maintenance records using company-approved software.
- Respond promptly to Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations to ensure rapid resolution and return to service.
Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead and manage the maintenance team, including mechanics, inspectors, and support staff.
- Work with the Training Manager to ensure regular training and professional development for the maintenance team is completed.
- Enforce safety protocols and standards within the maintenance department.
Vendor and Resource Management:
- Manage relationships with external maintenance providers, parts suppliers, and contractors.
- Negotiate contracts and ensure the cost-effective procurement of parts and services.
- Oversee the parts department to monitor inventory levels and ensure the availability of critical parts and tools.
Budget and Cost Control:
- Work with the Vice President of Accounting to manage the maintenance department’s budget.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining safety and compliance.
- Track and report on maintenance expenses and resource utilization.
Reporting and Communication:
- Provide regular updates to executive leadership on maintenance operations, aircraft status, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in operational planning and decision-making processes as part of the leadership team.
- Maintain open lines of communication with flight operations and scheduling teams to support operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Required Experience and Education:
- Experience managing FAA Part 135 maintenance operations.
- Experience in management of a Part 135 maintenance operations on a 10 or more certificate.
- Experience with conformity inspections and processes under a Part 135 certificate for an operation managing 10 or more aircraft.
- Extensive knowledge of FAA regulations, particularly FAR Part 135, and experience liaising with FAA inspectors.
- Strong understanding of turbine aircraft maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of experience managing FAA Part 135 maintenance operations.
- Experience with various aircraft types typically used in Part 135 operations, including Learjet, Falcon, and Challenger models.
- Experience with maintenance tracking software (e.g., Quantum, Traxxall, or similar).
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation maintenance management or a related field (preferred but not required).
