Job summary

RTX is seeking a Director of Intellectual Property / USG Data Rights (Remote) to lead IP engagement across the business and advise senior leaders on patent, trade secret, trademark and copyright matters.

You will collaborate with engineers, outside counsel and management to develop IP strategies, review disclosures, prosecute patents, monitor third-party rights, and manage IP risks in product development, with travel up to 10% and a strong focus on US Government Data Rights.

Qualifications

• University Degree + 14 years of relevant experience or Advanced Degree + 12 years of experience.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Juris Doctor degree is required.
• Bar admitted in one or more US states.
• 5+ years of IP legal experience.
• Registered to practice before USPTO.
• 5+ years of US Government Data Rights experience.

Responsibilities

• Drive IP engagement across the business.
• Provide concise, timely IP advice to senior management, general counsel, engineers, and commercial teams on patent, trade secret, trademark and copyright matters.
• Negotiate and advise on IP agreements and IP aspects of broader customer/supplier/partner agreements.
• Develop and implement IP strategies aligned with business objectives and product development processes.
• Identify protectable inventions, assess disclosures, prepare and prosecute patent applications, and protect trade secrets.
• Monitor third-party patents and assess infringement risk and validity to address risks before products go to market.
• Advise on potential infringement issues and oversee litigation as required.
• Utilize IP tools and policies and drive process improvements within the department.
• Develop SBUs IP strategies supporting business goals.
