GMA Construction Group in Chicago seeks a Director of IT to lead deployment, security, and support of hardware, field connectivity, and building software such as Procore, BIM, and Office 365. You will manage IT operations, vendor relationships, cybersecurity, and the IT helpdesk, guiding digital strategy across our construction projects and site teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field.
  • 5+ years of IT experience, with 2–3+ years in construction/industrial sectors.
  • Strong cloud, network, and cybersecurity background.
  • Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, or AutoCAD.

Job description

Director of IT will oversee the deployment, security, and support of hardware, field-connectivity solutions, and specialized building software. They will bridge the gap between field crews and corporate operations to ensure projects run smoothly using modern technology like BIM (Building Information Modeling), Procore, MS Office 365, and other technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Systems Management: Maintain and support construction management software (such as estimating, scheduling, and ERP tools) for office and field staff.
  • Field Technology & Infrastructure: Set up reliable temporary internet, mobile device management (MDM), and hardware for remote or active construction sites.
  • Vendor & SaaS Management: Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external software-as-a-service (SaaS) providers and hardware vendors.
  • Cybersecurity & Data Protection: Safeguard company networks, blueprints, financial data, and client communications against cyber threats.
  • User Support & Training: Lead an IT helpdesk to troubleshoot technical issues for project managers, engineers, and field laborers.
  • Digital Strategy: Evaluate emerging construction technologies (such as drones, IoT sensors, and field-mapping apps) to improve field productivity.
  • Employee Onboarding & Technology Setup: Coordinate with Human Resources and department managers to prepare, configure, and deploy all necessary technology, equipment, software, and system access for new employees, provide basic technology orientation and troubleshooting support, and maintain accurate inventory records of all company-issued technology and related assets.
  • Employee Offboarding: Coordinate with Human Resources to manage the employee offboarding process, including promptly disabling access to company systems and accounts, recovering company-issued technology and equipment, preparing returned devices for reassignment, and maintaining accurate technology inventory records and documentation.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of IT experience, with at least 2–3 years specifically supporting the construction, engineering, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong background in cloud computing, network administration, cybersecurity, and mobile device deployment.
  • Industry Familiarity: Understanding of construction workflows, project lifecycles, and software tools like Procore, Bluebeam, or AutoCAD.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical construction professionals.
