Job summary

SGR is seeking a Development Director in Missouri City, TX to turn a coordinated growth vision into reality across Fort Bend and Harris Counties. The role reports to the City Manager’s Office and oversees planning, zoning, permits, inspections, and community development.

The ideal candidate demonstrates emotional intelligence, humility, calm judgment, and a proven record of process improvement and execution through a team. Experience with redevelopment and master‑planned communities is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Valid Class C driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Master’s degree in planning, public administration, or a closely related field (preferred).
• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (preferred).
• Eight (8) years of professional experience as a Director or Assistant Planning Director in a municipal setting or equivalent (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and zoning, permits and inspections, and community development functions.
• Support implementation of the updated Comprehensive Plan and align ordinances with policy.
• Coordinate reviews across departments and coach division leaders; work with Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and City Council.
