Job summary

Missouri City is seeking a Development Director to turn a coordinated growth vision into reality across Fort Bend and Harris Counties. The Director will lead planning and zoning, permits and inspections, and community development with a focus on predictable service and staff development.

Reporting to the City Manager, this role requires emotional intelligence, a record of process improvement, and experience with redevelopment and master-planned communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or a closely related field.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• AICP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and zoning, permits and inspections, and community development.
• Report to City Manager’s Office and guide staff.
• Implement the Comprehensive Plan and align ordinances with policy.
• Improve application-to-completion processes and coordinate reviews across departments.
• Coach division leaders and build trust with residents and officials.
