Job summary

New American Leaders is seeking a Director of Development and External Engagement to advance fundraising, partnerships, and external communications. This senior role reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and leads a cross-functional team across development, communications, and external affairs.

The position focuses on strategic fundraising, cultivating major donor relationships, and elevating alumni leaders as spokespeople while shaping the organization’s external presence and partnerships.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years fundraising experience.
• Experience managing a team and budgets.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Relationship builder with a collaborative leadership style.

Responsibilities

• External Engagement & Strategic Partnerships: Develop an external engagement strategy with the CAO and cultivate partnerships with aligned organizations and influencers.
• Development: Lead institutional and major-donor strategy, plan and execute cultivation events, manage moves and revenue forecasting.
• Communications & Brand: Supervise communications, write donor proposals and briefs, protect brand voice and prepare leadership for media interactions.
