Job summary

The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh is seeking a Director of Communications & Development to advance its mission through integrated fundraising, marketing, communications, and community engagement.

Reporting to the President & CEO, you will lead fundraising, donor relations, grant development, and brand management while collaborating with program leadership to tell the organization's impact and expand its reach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Five to seven years of progressive leadership in nonprofit development/communications.
• Proven success securing major gifts, corporate sponsors, grants, and foundation funding.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Experience managing media relations and PR campaigns.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Experience with donor management software (e.g., Salsa).
• Proficiency in MS Office and digital platforms.
• Experience with social media management, email marketing, and website CMS.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals.
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual, corporate, foundation, and government donors.
• Research and identify new funding opportunities.
• Collaborate with program staff to develop grants and reports.
• Manage donor events, campaigns, and recognition initiatives.
• Oversee donor database management and reporting.
• Increase unrestricted revenue and sustain partnerships.
• Support the CEO in major gift cultivation and donor engagement.
• Develop and execute an integrated communications and marketing strategy.
• Manage brand identity across platforms.
• Create content: press releases, newsletters, annual reports, speeches, website content, social media.
• Serve as media liaison and coordinate media relations.
• Plan communications for campaigns and events.
• Oversee website and digital marketing; measure impact.
