Job summary

Conexus is seeking a Director of Technical Accounting in a flexible hybrid Lake Forest, CA role. You will own all technical accounting research, policy development, and SEC reporting while partnering with senior leadership to improve processes and controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• CPA license is required (active).
• Public accounting experience at Big 4 or mid-tier preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of GAAP and SOX controls.
• Ability to collaborate across multiple teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Own technical accounting research, memos, and policy development.
• Lead end-to-end SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q) with accuracy and timeliness.
• Serve as primary technical accounting resource for complex transactions (ASC 606, ASC 718, ASC 842, M&A).
• Manage external audit relationships and deliverables.
• Design and maintain SOX 404 internal controls program.
• Partner with Legal, FP&A, HR and executives on new business initiatives.
• Prepare and present analyses to CFO and Audit Committee.
• Build and mentor a high-performing finance team.

Location: Lake Forest, CA 92630 (Flexible Hybrid)

Our publicly traded client is searching for a Director of Technical Accounting. This individual will own all financial reporting and technical accounting while having direct visibility to senior leadership. This Director level candidate will have the opportunity to tighten processes and gain exposure to complex transactions. Their ideal candidate will be someone coming out of a top Public Accounting firm at a senior manager level or above with public clients.

Responsibilities:

• Own all technical accounting research, position memos, and company-wide accounting policy development, ensuring alignment with US GAAP and evolving regulatory standards
• Lead end-to-end SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q), driving continuous improvements in accuracy, completeness, and filing timelines
• Serve as the company's primary technical accounting resource on complex transactions, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), stock-based compensation (ASC 718), leases (ASC 842), and M&A purchase accounting
• Manage the external audit relationship, coordinating deliverables, PBC lists, and audit committee materials to ensure a smooth and efficient audit process
• Design and maintain a strong internal controls environment (SOX 404), leading documentation, testing support, and remediation efforts across the finance organization
• Partner cross-functionally with Legal, FP&A, HR, and business leaders to assess the accounting implications of new business initiatives, contracts, and strategic transactions
• Prepare and present technical accounting analyses and reporting updates to the CFO and Audit Committee
• Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, establishing clear priorities and fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related degree
• Experience in Public Accounting (Big 4 or Mid-Tier Firms) is required.
• CPA license is required.
• Knowledge of SOX is required.
• Knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger accounting
• Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams, business leaders, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results
