Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership.
• CPA preferred but not required.
• Strong GAAP, internal controls, budgeting, and audits.
• Experience with nonprofit/grant-funded environments.
• Experience managing multiple entities/departments.
• Strong Excel skills and adaptability to new systems.
• Excellent communication with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting.
• Leading month-end and year-end close processes, with improved timelines.
• Managing and developing accounting professionals.
• Preparing and reviewing financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting.
• Overseeing budgeting, audits, and compliance.
• Strengthening internal controls and driving process improvements.
• Partnering with department leaders to improve reporting and cross-functional communication.

Key responsibilities include:

• Overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, general ledger activities, and financial reporting
• Leading month-end and year-end close processes, with an emphasis on improving reporting timelines
• Managing and developing a team of accounting professionals
• Preparing and reviewing financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting
• Overseeing annual budgeting, financial audits, and compliance requirements
• Identifying opportunities to strengthen internal controls, streamline processes, and improve operational efficiency
• Partnering with department leaders to improve financial reporting, accountability, and cross-functional communication
• Supporting financial operations across multiple programs, departments, and related entities
• Providing financial insights and recommendations to support organizational decision-making

Ideal background:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
• CPA preferred, but not required
• Strong technical accounting foundation with hands-on general ledger, financial reporting, and month-end close experience
• Experience managing accounting teams and improving financial processes
• Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, budgeting, and financial audits
• Experience within nonprofit organizations, grant-funded environments, or similarly complex accounting structures required
• Background managing multiple entities, departments, or funding streams is a plus
• Strong Excel skills and ability to learn new accounting systems
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
