Director of Engineering, Shared Services

Remote, USA

About Stitch Fix, Inc.

Stitch Fix (NASDAQ: SFIX) is the leading online personal styling service that helps people discover the styles they will love that fit perfectly so they always look - and feel - their best. Few things are more personal than getting dressed, but finding clothing that fits and looks great can be a challenge. Stitch Fix solves that problem. By pairing expert stylists with best-in-class AI and recommendation algorithms, the company leverages its assortment of exclusive and national brands to meet each client's individual tastes and needs, making it convenient for clients to express their personal style without having to spend hours in stores or sifting through endless choices online. Stitch Fix, which was founded in 2011, is headquartered in San Francisco.

About the Role

This role requires a proven track record of managing managers, strategic thinking, change management, and direct stakeholder engagement. You will partner closely with Product, Data Science, Finance, Styling Operations, Customer Support, and Mobile teams to ensure Shared Services engineering initiatives drive the company’s long-term growth and success.

You're excited about this opportunity because you will…
  • Build, lead, and grow a high-performing engineering organization, creating an environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, clear expectations, continuous improvement, and success.
  • Invest in the careers of engineering managers and senior engineers through coaching, mentorship, timely feedback, delegation, and providing stretch opportunities.
  • Form strong cross-functional partnerships across Product, Data Science, Finance, Styling Operations, Customer Support, and Mobile.
  • Develop and execute a technical and organizational strategy focused on scalability, experimentation, and client experience improvements.
  • Lead change management efforts, influencing how teams and leaders adapt to new processes, structures, and business needs.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, providing guidance on architecture and ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business goals.
  • Directly manage stakeholder relationships, ensuring engineering teams are tightly aligned with business partners without heavy reliance on program management intermediaries.
  • Think strategically and define, measure, and drive organizational metrics to track success and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the decision on build vs buy at a strategic level by building POC and evaluating against long and short term priorities.
We’re excited about you because…
  • You have 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership, with at least 5+ years at or above the senior manager level.
  • You bring a strong track record of building, scaling, and leading engineering organizations.
  • You are an expert in change management, functional leadership, and talent development.
  • You understand modern software development practices, including Agile, CI/CD, and building distributed systems for scalability and resilience.
  • You have a strong ability to define and drive technical strategy and organizational outcomes.
  • You are comfortable with vendor management, RFPs, and optimizing costs within a cost center, even without direct budget ownership.
  • You possess strong communication skills, with the ability to influence at the team, peer, and executive levels.
  • You value collaboration, transparency, and operational excellence, always putting the success of the broader organization first.
Why you'll love working at Stitch Fix...
  • We are a group of bright, kind people who are motivated by challenge. We value integrity, innovation and trust. You’ll bring these characteristics to life in everything you do at Stitch Fix.
  • We cultivate a community of diverse perspectives— all voices are heard and valued.
  • We are an innovative company and leverage our strengths in fashion and tech to disrupt the future of retail.
  • We win as a team, commit to our work, and celebrate grit together because we value strong relationships.
  • We boldly create the future while keeping equity and sustainability at the center of all that we do.
  • We are the owners of our work and are energized by solving problems through a growth mindset lens. We think broadly and creatively through every situation to create meaningful impact.
  • We offer comprehensive compensation packages and inclusive health and wellness benefits.
