Job summary

Hawthorne Cat, a family-owned leader in construction machinery and power systems, seeks a Director of Engineering to guide engineering and sales support for equipment, systems, and services. You will develop proposals, cost estimates, submittals, and drawings while ensuring compliance with policies and safety standards.

The role focuses on natural gas engines, CHP applications, exhaust after treatment, and expanding advancing electrical services.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree preferred and 5+ years of power generation industry experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Experience using MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel).
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Project preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Clear communication of business and technical information in writing and speaking.
• Valid driver's license with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Identify customer technical requirements and provide product, service or equipment information.
• Prepare submittal documents from blueprints, plans and specs; coordinate with engineers and architects.
• Analyze cost-benefit to propose equipment/process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements; advise customers appropriately.
• Update technical knowledge through training, publications and professional networks.
• Support sales engineering by addressing short- and long-term issues and options.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers and prospects.
• Engage electrical engineers to influence specifications toward Caterpillar offerings.
• Source potential vendors for products or services and review plans/specs.
• Attend construction meetings with clients as required.
• Serve as the principal resource for natural gas engine tech and CHPP systems.
• Expand Advance Electrical Services business segment and quote proposals with scope of work.
• Maintain daily summaries and participate in inter-department meetings.
