Job summary

Syngene International Ltd. seeks a Director, Engineering and Maintenance to provide strategic and technical leadership across Engineering, Facilities, and Maintenance at the site. You will drive capital projects, improve equipment reliability, and align standards with regulatory expectations.

You will lead a high-performing team, establish engineering governance, and partner with senior leaders to advance technology implementations and lifecycle management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related field).
• 10+ years in biopharma/biotech with engineering or facilities leadership.
• Career progression with increasing scope and impact.
• Extensive knowledge of cGMP, regulatory expectations, and compliance.
• Lead cross-functional teams and align engineering strategy with business objectives.
• Facility planning, asset lifecycle management, and infrastructure strategy.
• Facility systems, utilities, and manufacturing equipment knowledge in cGMP.
• Knowledge of Quality Systems (deviations, CAPAs, change control).
• Budgeting, capital planning, and cost optimization.
• Digital and data-driven engineering tools including predictive maintenance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong stakeholder influence.
• Lead and develop teams and mentor staff.
• Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and regulators.
• Strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation.
• Prior SAP or similar enterprise systems experience.
• MS Project and standard Office tools proficiency.
• Manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Customer-focused with commitment to operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for Engineering and Maintenance.
• Oversee Facilities, Utilities, Maintenance, and Engineering functions.
• Oversee capital project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and implementation.
• Ensure facilities, utilities, and equipment meet industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Own Quality Systems within Engineering and Maintenance (deviations, CAPAs, SOP changes, change control).
• Provide guidance to support health and safety policies and procedures.
• Develop and execute departmental goals, strategies, and long-term plans.
• Lead end-to-end design, implementation, and lifecycle management of equipment and systems.
• Support technology transfers, equipment upgrades, and facility expansions.
• Establish engineering standards, governance, and best practices across systems.
• Lead cross-functional audits and regulatory inspections as departmental point of contact.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on business cases, resource plans, and engineering strategies.
• Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and site capital planning.
• Oversee external engineering contractors, consultants, and service providers.
• Drive equipment reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor staff through coaching and training to foster growth.
