Job summary

Consumers Energy seeks a Director of Engineering to lead planning, validation, coordination, procurement, and execution of complex programs including metering infrastructure. You will develop and implement engineering strategy, governance, and budgeting across the company.

You will partner with senior leaders to deliver an integrated execution roadmap, manage scope and dependencies, and guide vendor decisions and system integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with ten (10) or more years of experience in project management within a regulatory environment.
• Alternative: degree from non-ABET program plus Professional Engineer license with ten (10) or more years of experience in regulatory project management.

Responsibilities

• Establish and monitor systems for measuring progress and problem-solving.
• Coordinate reports for senior leadership or regulatory agencies.
• Develop budgets, schedules, and performance standards for engineering programs.
• Evaluate and select vendors for engineering supplies and equipment.
• Negotiate research contracts and agreements with outside contractors.
• Review project proposals to determine time frame, funding, staffing, and resource allocation.
• Oversee all engineering projects from conception to completion within budget and schedule.
• Set direction for department projects to ensure on-time progress and budget adherence.
• Investigate complaints about engineering products or services and take corrective action.
• Monitor program progress and adjust plans to ensure timely completion.
