Abrazo Group is seeking a highly motivated “hands-on” Electrical Engineering Director to lead the Electrical Engineering group within the development studio of our most active client. The ideal candidate will oversee the design and development of all electronics used in pinball machines. The candidate will ensure that all electrical systems meet industry standards and contribute to the overall quality and success of the products.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers and cable design technicians to design, develop, test, and implement new electronic systems and features for pinball machines.
- Oversee all aspects of the electrical engineering process, from concept design to production release. Responsible for the design integrity of electronics and electrical systems used in the games.
- Identify and integrate new technologies and components into our products.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards (UL, FCC, CE-EMI).
- Work closely with mechanical engineers, game designers, software engineers, manufacturing staff, and vendors to ensure integration of new designs and electrical systems.
- Develop and maintain electrical engineering documentation, including Schematics, PCB layouts, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and Maintain Approved Vendor List (AVL) of electronic components.
- Establish and apply best practices to ensure quality designs and processes. Collaborate with the ERP system (Visual-Infor) to coordinate with BOM groups, procurement, and manufacturing teams.
- Train, mentor, and guide electrical engineering staff, including cable designers. Coordinate development efforts to maintain the game development schedule.
- Project manage department resources, collaborating with other departments and external resources to achieve development goals.
- Work closely with game development teams to identify the appropriate technology required to support game designs and schedules.
- Lead development of test fixtures and equipment to support external electronic board assembly houses and internal production efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Computer Science (BSCE) with a focus on electronic hardware circuits and components.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical engineering design and development, with proven leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of digital, analog, and power circuits.
- Proficient with electrical design and layout tools (EAGLE preferred). Experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, meters, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Technical expertise in digital circuits, microprocessors, analog circuits (audio and power supply), power supplies (linear and switcher up to 10 Amps at 48V), electromagnetics, AC/DC motors, and stepper motor control.
- Experience with PCB fabrication methods, vendor capabilities, and design for manufacturability.
- Mechanical aptitude for engaging with mechanical engineers on lighting, sensors, and motion control.
- Experience in test fixture design, construction, and training for external electronic assembly vendors.
- Power system analysis and optimization skills.
- Electrical ERP data management experience (AVL, BOMs, components).
- Programming experience (e.g., Visual Studio, Arduino, Raspberry Pi) for bench testing and fixture development.
