Job summary

International Paper seeks a Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager at a Director level to lead site HSE programs at the Springfield paper mill near Eugene, Oregon. This role oversees Safety, Health, and Workers’ Compensation, with accountability for incident reduction, regulatory compliance, and sustainability initiatives.

The ideal candidate has extensive manufacturing HSE experience, a technical background, and a proven ability to mentor Environmental Engineers and Safety staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or occupational health and safety or related degree.
• 8-12 years’ experience in a broad range of manufacturing environments; forest products industry preferred.
• Strong written & verbal communication skills; problem solving, negotiation, presentation, and training delivery skills.
• Ability to learn quickly, build effective teams, and set priorities with HSE/Business leads.

Responsibilities

• Lead site HSE programs including Safety Excellence, Safety Above All Else, Safe Align implementation, and Safety Steering.
• Pursue an incident-free workplace and 100% regulatory compliance.
• Advance environmental, health, safety, and sustainability metrics; report on KPIs.
• Provide oversight to Safety, Health, and Workers’ Compensation to achieve safety targets and reduce costs.
• Lead internal/external communications and liaison with community and authorities.
