Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The NCCU Department of Athletics’ primary purpose is to provide leadership for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student- athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Director of Development drives the strategic vision and execution of comprehensive fundraising efforts for the Department of Athletics while serving as a vital member of the Executive Leadership Team.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Proven skills in meeting goals for contributions, corporate sponsorships and major gifts for an Intercollegiate Athletics program. The candidate must possess outstanding oral and written communication skills. Preferred experience in using Raiser’s Edge, ticketing system software, and Adobe software packages.

Minimum Education/Experience

A bachelor’s degree is required, with a master’s degree strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with 3-5 years of frontline development experience in collegiate athletics or higher education advancement.

Primary Responsibilities And Duties

Function Management & Operations Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Identifies, cultivates and solicits donor prospects in support of NCCU Athletics to reach annual fundraising goals as set forth by the Director of Athletics in conjunction with the Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement. Actively participates with the Office of Institutional Advancement in moves management, prospect screening, and goal setting via regularly scheduled group or individual meetings.

Supervises Development & Corporate operations, undergraduate and graduate interns assigned to the Development Office. Serves as an executive leadership team member & senior staff member of the Department of Athletics

Function Planning and Organizing Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Plan and implement all aspects of the major and annual gift fundraising program (prospect management from identification through stewardship, events, communications, social media, and volunteer management) for programmatic needs for a department that comprises 15 varsity sports.

Function Customer Service & Collaboration Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Collaborate with internal compliance teams and external NIL collectives to facilitate fundraising efforts that support student‑athlete Revenue Sharing and Name, Image, and Likeness initiatives.

Function Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Partner with athletic leadership to educate donors and align fundraising strategies with emerging Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) programs and student‑athlete Revenue Sharing (RevShare) initiatives.
