Job Title: Director of Development

Role Description:
The Director of Development is a senior-level leader responsible for leading and overseeing Gladden’s comprehensive fundraising strategy, including identifying potential donors, cultivating relationships, soliciting major gifts, managing annual giving campaigns, and overseeing communications and marketing efforts to support fundraising goals, all while aligning with the organization’s strategic plan and mission. The Director of Development builds relationships by proactively engaging with corporate and community leaders and partners, which fosters the organization’s growth and promotes awareness of Gladden Community House within the central Ohio community and beyond. The Director of Development works in partnership with the CEO, Associate Development staff, other senior staff, and colleagues across Gladden to proudly share Gladden’s mission, programs, services, and trusted brand image with the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes corporate and foundation giving, special events, annual campaign, major gifts, and planned giving.
- Donor Cultivation and Solicitation: Identifying, researching, and cultivating relationships with high-potential donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations, to solicit significant financial contributions.
- Leadership: Key contributor to the organization’s strategic plan, respected and trusted brand image, and positive reputation and culture. Potential to manage other team members.
- Board Engagement: Collaborating closely with the Gladden Board of Directors to identify grant and fundraising priorities, engage board members in grant and fundraising activities, and report on advancement progress.
- Communication and Marketing: Developing and managing marketing and communications strategies to promote the organization’s mission, programs, and fundraising initiatives to potential donors.
Key Responsibilities (continued):
- Donor Stewardship: Implementing robust stewardship practices to maintain and deepen relationships with existing donors, acknowledge gifts, and provide updates on the impact of their contributions.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilizing data and reporting tools to track fundraising progress, identify trends, and make informed decisions about strategy. Key contributor to an accurate, up to date, and valuable CRM (Customer Relationship Management) repository.
- Compliance and Ethics: Ensuring adherence to all legal and ethical fundraising practices.
- Gladden Ambassador: Ability to share an in-depth knowledge of Gladden’s history, current programs, and services. Build strong “win-win” partnerships and rapport with companies, organizations, and individuals in Franklinton and throughout the Central Ohio community. Represent Gladden at public events, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Humanities and/or Social Sciences. Or, extensive related professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in professional sales, nonprofit business development, community relations, and/or other related fields.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining multi-year professional relationships.
- Demonstrated multi-year experience with nonprofit organizations – as full-time employee and/or volunteer. Demonstrated passion for a mission. Nonprofit board experience and/or experience organizing and leading fundraising events is a big plus.
- A proven leader with a track record of operating with positive, contagious energy.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially with other professionals.
- Must be a self-motivated, results‑oriented leader with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills. Grant writing experience and/or experience developing proposals and business cases is a big plus.
- Proficient in technology, databases, and current application trends, including the organization’s social media. Experience using CRM systems is a big plus.
