Job summary

ABC Fitness seeks a senior data architect to define the data architecture strategy and drive the transformation of data platforms from batch to real-time. You will work with product, engineering, and executives to align architecture with business outcomes and lead a global team of senior architects.

The role requires deep cloud data platform experience, strong communication skills, and hands-on use of AI to improve data capabilities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data architecture or related discipline.
• Experience moving data platforms from batch to real-time architectures.
• Strong background with modern cloud data platforms and lakehouse architecture.
• Experience with AWS, Databricks, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog.
• Foundations in data modeling, warehousing, governance, and distributed systems.
• SQL and Python proficiency to review designs and engage with engineers.
• Practical use of AI in work with sound judgment on value.
• Strong communication to explain strategy to executives and engineers.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/engineering or equivalent experience.

What You’ll Do

• Define and communicate ABC’s data architecture strategy, roadmap, and standards.
• Lead the architectural evolution from batch and latency-driven processing toward real-time data.
• Partner with executive, product, and engineering leaders to connect data architecture decisions to business and customer outcomes.
• Identify practical opportunities to use AI to improve engineering productivity, data generation, quality, and decision-making.
• Lead, coach, and develop a global team of four to five senior data architects.
• Establish consistent design review practices across the Data and Reporting organization.
• Guide architecture decisions related to data quality, governance, security, compliance, scalability, and reliability.
• Partner with Product leaders early in the planning process to shape data and reporting capabilities.
• Explain complex technical strategies clearly to both executive and technical audiences.
• Build alignment across teams and influence decisions beyond your direct reporting relationships.

What You’ll Need

• 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related discipline, including experience leading senior technical professionals.
• Demonstrated experience moving data platforms from batch processing toward real-time or near-real-time architectures.
• Deep experience with modern cloud data platforms and lakehouse architecture.
• Experience with AWS, Databricks, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog is highly valued.
• Strong foundations in data modeling, data warehousing, data governance, and distributed data systems.
• Working knowledge of SQL and Python sufficient to review designs and engage credibly with engineers.
• Practical experience using AI in your own work, along with sound judgment about where AI creates meaningful value.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to make technical strategy clear to executive leaders and design decisions clear to engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to influence product and engineering partners without relying solely on formal authority.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

And It’s Great to Have

• Experience in fitness, wellness, SaaS, payments, or another subscription-based business.
• Experience building customer-facing analytics or reporting products.
• Experience with Databricks SQL, Power BI, or comparable analytics platforms.
• Experience leading globally distributed teams across multiple time zones.

• ABC’s data architecture strategy is clear, credible, and supported by executive leadership.
• The first real-time capabilities are live, with a practical roadmap for continued transformation.
• Data and Reporting teams work against shared architecture, quality, governance, and design standards.
• AI is embedded into the team’s everyday approach to building and improving data capabilities.
• Product and engineering leaders involve the architecture team early in strategic decisions.
• Your team is highly capable, well-developed, and trusted across the organization.

Compensation for this role will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, skills, geographic location, and market considerations. The anticipated compensation range for this position is -$173,000 - 198,000 USD- annually. In addition to base compensation, eligible employees may be offered other forms of compensation, such as bonuses, commissions, equity, or other incentive programs, where applicable. Compensation and benefits may vary by location and are subject to applicable legal, business, and market requirements.
