Job summary

The University of New Hampshire in Durham seeks an innovative leader to become the institutional expert on core research facilities. The Director will manage the University Instrumentation Center (UIC) and develop a coordinated network of core facilities to advance UNH's research, education, and innovation missions.

The role requires a strong track record in managing complex facilities, strategic budgeting, stakeholder engagement, and grant/proposal success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of business management experience or graduate degree in science or engineering with 6+ years managerial experience.
• Experience operating under government (OMB & FAR) regulations and requirements.
• Deep understanding of analytical instrumentation used in chemistry, life sciences or engineering.
• Leadership or administrative track record, ideally with core facilities management in a university.
• Experience developing cost models and business plans.
• Track record growing and managing business development and customer relationships.
• Experience developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships among campus and external stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and public speaking skills.
• Success in grant writing and procurement of extramural funding.

Responsibilities

• Leading strategic, budget, and business plan development for the University Instrumentation Center (UIC).
• Manage staff development, cross-training, and performance evaluations.
• Build internal/external partnerships and engage with faculty to anticipate instrumentation needs.
• Chair a core facilities committee and assess the landscape for coordinated facilities network.
• Lead implementation of a professionalized, centralized network of research core facilities.
• Develop processes with UNHInnovation for corporate engagement using core facilities.
• Establish metrics for evaluation and ensure sustainable business models.
