About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Director of Construction Safety to lead safety operations for an established general contractor specializing in commercial construction, heavy civil, highways, bridges, and infrastructure projects throughout Maryland.

This is a high‑impact leadership opportunity for someone who thrives in the field, builds strong relationships with construction crews, and takes a proactive approach to safety.

The ideal candidate is an engaging, confident safety leader who can take ownership of the company's safety program while remaining actively involved with field teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage company-wide safety programs across commercial construction, heavy civil, highway, and infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee safety across approximately 10–15 active jobsites throughout Maryland.
  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections, safety audits, hazard assessments, and corrective‑action planning.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, MOSHA, and applicable construction safety regulations.
  • Lead accident investigations, root‑cause analysis, incident reporting, and workers' compensation matters.
  • Develop and deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and ongoing employee education.
  • Partner closely with superintendents, foremen, project managers, and field crews to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Mentor and oversee safety support personnel while continuously improving safety programs, reporting, and procedures.
  • Introduce new safety practices, technologies, and initiatives to improve overall jobsite performance.
Qualifications
  • 7–10+ years of construction safety experience, preferably within general contracting, heavy civil, highway, or infrastructure construction.
  • Strong hands‑on field safety leadership experience across multiple active construction projects.
  • Experience with highway, bridge, roadway, and commercial construction safety strongly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA/MOSHA regulations, jobsite inspections, incident investigations, and hazard prevention.
  • OSHA 30 and OSHA 500 required.
  • First Aid/CPR and traffic control/MOT certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of fall protection, traffic control, and construction site safety procedures.
  • Experience managing safety training programs and workers' compensation matters.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Comfortable traveling between Maryland jobsites and occasionally supporting night or weekend operations.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: $140,000–$180,000, depending on experience.
  • Company truck with gas card, available for personal commute.
  • Opportunity to lead and strengthen an established construction safety program.
  • Collaborative leadership team and a hands‑on, field‑focused company culture.
  • Long‑term growth and professional development opportunities.
Who We're Looking For

We're looking for a safety leader who is just as comfortable walking an active highway or bridge project as they are working with executive leadership.

Someone who builds trust with crews, takes ownership, communicates effectively, and knows how to create a safety‑first environment without simply policing employees.
