Job summary

Eliot Unitarian Universalist Chapel in Missouri is seeking a Director of Business Administration to lead financial, administrative, HR and facilities operations. The role reports to the Lead Minister and coordinates with the Board of Trustees and committees to uphold the church’s mission.

The DBA will oversee systems, policies and controls, and supervise the admin staff while collaborating with volunteers and lay leadership to ensure ethical and efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree is required.
• Experience in financial management, bookkeeping, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop or comparable accounting software.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace or similar tools.
• Experience with database or membership management software; Realm preferred.
• Experience with Looker Studio, Power BI or similar data visualization tools; preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of payroll, employee benefits, and HR administration.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing needs.
• Proactive ability to assess and course correct as needed.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with staff, volunteers, teams and lay leadership.
• Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality.
• Knowledge of Unitarian Universalism and congregational systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial, administrative, HR, facilities, technology and business operations.
• Lead financial controls, budgeting, reporting and auditing processes.
• Supervise the administrative assistant and collaborate with volunteers and staff.
• Maintain systems, policies and confidentiality across the organization.
• Coordinate with Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and committees.
• Represent the Lead Minister as ex-officio of Finance Committee.
• Foster effective teamwork and strong relationship-building within the congregation.
