Job summary

City of Walnut is seeking a Director of Community Services to lead the department, oversee the Senior Community Center, Gymnasium and Teen Center, and manage recreation programs and events. The role requires strong leadership, fiscal oversight, and the ability to guide staff and partner with City leadership.

The Director will supervise up to 75 seasonal staff and 9 full-time employees, develop policies, and maintain excellent public engagement and service quality for residents of all ages.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of increasingly responsible experience in community services and recreation program development.
• Education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major coursework in recreation administration, sociology, business administration, or a related field.
• A California driver's license with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Direct a variety of programs including recreational activities, sports activities, senior and teen programs, special events, facility management, and other community services as needed.
• Oversee and manage City's social media program and supervise staff.
• Administer complex contractual agreements with outside agencies and instructors.
• Implement revisions of policies and procedures pertaining to City administration; conduct research and analysis for conformance with City Code and legal requirements.
• Provide complex staff assistance to the City Manager, City Council, commissions, or committees.
• Select, train, motivate, and evaluate Community Services staff; coordinate staff training; establish performance objectives.
• Direct the preparation of the budget and work program; monitor budget expenditures.
