Job summary

TPC Group in Houston, TX seeks a Director of Capital to lead infrastructure, maintenance, reliability and capital projects across a chemical plant, two terminals and related operations. You will direct portfolio strategy, oversee engineering design, procurement, construction and turnover with internal reporting and cost/schedule control.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in project management in the chemical and/or refining industry.
• Engineering degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
• Experience with a rigorous project stage-gate process.
• Demonstrated skill in change management.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while adhering to safety, health, environmental and quality guidelines.
• Strong written and verbal communication adaptable to different audiences.
• Experience with project execution plans and constructability reviews.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the position.

Responsibilities

• Lead resourcing, staffing, supply and subcontract management, progress reporting, troubleshooting and people management.
• Create and implement comprehensive capital project portfolio execution strategy including schedule, budget, procurement and resources.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to vet projects, schedules, financials, environmental/health/safety impacts and feasibility.
• Identify opportunities to improve portfolio management and project controls.
• Ensure governance requirements for program/project funding and execution are met.
• Manage and execute capital projects with direction and oversight through lifecycle.
• Develop project execution strategy including schedule, budget, procurement and communications.
• Identify risk factors and rank threats; develop risk response plans.
• Coordinate project administration to optimize resources.
• Lead major projects through definition phase, assembling teams and securing funding.
• Validate scope and execution plans prior to funding approval (AFE).
• Capture lessons learned during closeout.
• Spread knowledge and best practices to all team members.
• Communicate with Operations Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team regarding project objectives.
