About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Associate Director / Director to lead business development activities across the US East Coast.
This is a hunter-focused sales role for someone who enjoys identifying new opportunities, opening doors, developing relationships and converting prospects into customers.
You will be responsible for the full sales cycle, from prospecting and initial contact through qualification, proposals, commercial negotiations and contract execution.
Key Responsibilities
New Business Development
- Develop and execute a proactive strategy to identify, qualify and convert new business across the East Coast.
- Prospect through industry databases, LinkedIn, conferences, referrals and existing networks.
- Initiate conversations and secure meetings with prospective customers.
- Leverage an established biopharma network to generate new opportunities.
- Manage opportunities from initial contact through proposal, negotiation and contract execution.
- Achieve assigned sales and revenue targets.
- Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline.
- Maintain accurate Salesforce data, forecasting and reporting.
Account Development & Commercial Strategy
- Build relationships with senior decision-makers across biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
- Develop strategic accounts and long-term customer partnerships.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing relationships and introduce additional services.
- Understand customer needs and position the company’s technical capabilities accordingly.
- Contribute to commercial strategy, market positioning and competitive intelligence.
Cross-Functional & Technical Sales
- Work closely with R&D, CMC, Operations, Project Management and Marketing teams.
- Translate customer requirements into appropriate technical and commercial solutions.
- Lead customer presentations and discussions.
- Coordinate proposals, quotations and Statements of Work.
- Support contract and commercial negotiations.
Conferences & Industry Events
- Identify high-value conferences, partnering events and industry meetings.
- Represent the company at conferences and customer meetings.
- Arrange meetings with prospective and existing customers.
- Increase brand awareness across the biopharmaceutical market.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Life Sciences, Business or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years’ experience in business development, sales or a related commercial role within biotechnology or biopharma.
- Experience with a CRO, CMO or CDMO strongly preferred.
- Proven experience selling complex technical/scientific services to biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
- Established biopharmaceutical industry network.
- Demonstrated success generating new business and measurable revenue growth.
- Strong hunter mentality, with experience in prospecting, cold outreach, networking and new-account acquisition.
- Strong understanding of complex B2B and consultative sales cycles.
- Proven ability to negotiate and close complex commercial opportunities.
- Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills.
- Ability to engage senior stakeholders across R&D, CMC, Technical Operations, Manufacturing, Procurement and Executive Management.
- Comfortable working independently and across global, cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel within the US and internationally.
- Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder and located in the eastern US.
