Job summary

WHOOP, based in Boston, seeks a Director of Battery Technology to lead the Battery Technology organization, setting the technical vision and building a high-performing global team across the US and China to advance battery performance, safety, reliability, and integration.

You will own the multi-year roadmap for battery technologies, partner across Hardware, Product, Operations, and Supply Chain to translate ambitious product goals into battery strategies, and develop leaders while shaping

Qualifications

• 10+ years in battery technology, battery systems, electrochemistry, or related hardware engineering with meaningful leadership experience.
• Deep expertise in lithium-ion cell technology: chemistry, design, performance, degradation, safety, qualification, manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of battery systems: pack architecture, charging, protection, validation, reliability, product integration.
• Proven track record of roadmapping and bringing new tech to high-volume products.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary or distributed teams and developing technical leaders.
• Ability to build strategic relationships with cell manufacturers and partners to influence supplier roadmaps.
• Strong cross-functional leadership and communication; able to clarify complex tradeoffs.
• Willingness to relocate to Boston, MA; role based in WHOOP office.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the Battery Technology organization across Battery Cell Engineering, Battery Systems Engineering, and in-region China teams.
• Define and drive the multi-year battery technology roadmap across cell chemistry, architecture, charging, safety, reliability, and performance.
• Own battery technology development from exploration through design, validation, manufacturing ramp, and field performance.
• Build strategic relationships with cell manufacturers and technology partners and influence supplier roadmaps.
• Partner with Hardware, Product, Operations, and Supply Chain to drive system-level decisions on life, size, performance, integration, safety, cost, and user experience.
• Develop technical leaders, processes, and infrastructure to enable scalable execution.
