Job summary

Smule, Inc. is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead multiple teams building scalable, AI-powered consumer experiences for our global community. You will drive Smule’s transition to an AI-first engineering organization, shaping architecture, standards, and delivery.

This hybrid role requires strong technical leadership, a track record of building high-performing teams at scale, and a passion for emerging AI technologies. On-site 1-2 days in Salt Lake City or Bay Area.

Qualifications

• Strong AI fluency with practical experience applying AI-powered development, ML, or DL in consumer products.
• Proven experience leading software engineering teams and delivering high-scale consumer services.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management across product, design, data and leadership teams.
• Ability to balance speed, quality, scalability, and business priorities in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering teams and managers to deliver product and platform roadmaps with high execution quality and reliability.
• Drive AI-first engineering practices and embed AI-assisted development and ML systems into workflows.
• Evaluate and adopt AI/ML technologies to improve product innovation and platform scalability.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, and other leaders on roadmap planning and technical debt reduction.
• Establish and uphold engineering standards for architecture, testing, observability, and production readiness.
• Define and track engineering KPIs for delivery velocity, quality, and reliability.
• Develop high-performing teams through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
• Lead incident reviews and drive continuous improvements in engineering execution.
