Job summary

Ascendo Resources in Downtown Miami is seeking a Director of Accounting for a hands-on leadership role within a hospitality and leisure organization. You will oversee the monthly close across multiple entities, drive GAAP reporting, and partner with the CFO on performance, risks, and process improvements.

The ideal candidate holds a CPA with 7–9+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong team leadership, and a track record in automation and AI-driven efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (or related field).
• Active CPA required.
• 7–9+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong multi-entity/month-end close experience.
• Experience with automation or AI tools is valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the monthly close and financial reporting process across multiple entities/business units.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements.
• Manage, coach, and develop the accounting team, including Controllers and Senior Accountants.
• Serve as the department’s technical accounting and GAAP resource.
• Lead the annual financial audit and manage relationships with external auditors.
• Oversee fixed assets, CAPEX, construction-in-progress, depreciation, and lease accounting.
• Monitor AR/AP aging, payroll accounting, and overall financial controls.
• Partner with Finance and Operations leadership on profitability, financial performance, and variance analysis.
• Establish and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Identify manual or inefficient processes and lead automation and AI initiatives to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Communicate directly with the CFO regarding departmental performance, risks, and personnel matters.

I’m currently recruiting for a Director of Accounting opportunity with a leading hospitality and leisure organization based in Downtown Miami.

This is a hands-on leadership position reporting directly to the CFO and overseeing the accounting function across multiple business units. The ideal candidate is a strong technical accounting leader who can manage the close, develop and hold teams accountable, and bring a strong mindset toward process improvement, automation, and AI-driven efficiency.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Active CPA required

• 7-9+ years of progressive accounting experience


• Strong multi-entity/multi-unit month-end close experience


• Proven people-management and leadership experience


• Strong technical accounting and GAAP knowledge


• Multi-state or multi-jurisdiction experience preferred


• Hospitality, tourism, or multi-location service industry experience is a plus


• Experience with accounting automation, AI tools, or process optimization is highly valued

Location: Miami, FL - Downtown

Compensation: Competitive base salary + 10% target annual bonus
