As a member of the Finance Department, this individual will join an experienced and committed group of entrepreneurial leaders building an exceptional insurance and employer services organization.SummaryWe are seeking a seasoned and detail-oriented Director of Accounting to lead our accounting operations and ensure strong financial compliance and reporting. This role has a primary focus on U.S. GAAP accounting, internal controls, and management of the external audit process, with secondary responsibilities in financial planning and analysis (FP&A). The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong technical accounting background and excellent leadership capabilities. As a member of the accounting team, this individual also serves as a positive, professional role model who embraces and supports our culture, which combines exceptionally high standards for performance and behavior with an upbeat, ethical, and friendly environment. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.Responsibilities Accounting & Compliance (Primary Focus):

  • Oversee and manage the full cycle accounting process, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Player/coach, expected to own and prepare more complex processes/journal entries, while also managing and reviewing staff’s work.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Lead the coordination and support for annual external audits and liaise with auditors.
  • Monitor new accounting pronouncements and assess their impact on the company.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
Financial Planning & Analysis (Secondary Focus):
  • Support the development and analysis of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Assist in preparing financial models, management, board reporting and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to provide financial insights and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to cash flow forecasting and working capital analysis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Public accounting experience (Big 4 or national firm) strongly preferred.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to FP&A functions and financial modeling.
  • Experience in the insurance industry a plus.
