As a member of the Finance Department, this individual will join an experienced and committed group of entrepreneurial leaders building an exceptional insurance and employer services organization.SummaryWe are seeking a seasoned and detail-oriented Director of Accounting to lead our accounting operations and ensure strong financial compliance and reporting. This role has a primary focus on U.S. GAAP accounting, internal controls, and management of the external audit process, with secondary responsibilities in financial planning and analysis (FP&A). The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong technical accounting background and excellent leadership capabilities. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.Responsibilities Accounting & Compliance (Primary Focus):

• Oversee and manage the full cycle accounting process, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
• Player/coach, expected to own and prepare more complex processes/journal entries, while also managing and reviewing staff’s work.
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
• Lead the coordination and support for annual external audits and liaise with auditors.
• Monitor new accounting pronouncements and assess their impact on the company.
• Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures.

Financial Planning & Analysis (Secondary Focus):

• Support the development and analysis of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
• Assist in preparing financial models, management, board reporting and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Collaborate with department leaders to provide financial insights and performance metrics.
• Contribute to cash flow forecasting and working capital analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Public accounting experience (Big 4 or national firm) strongly preferred.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• Exposure to FP&A functions and financial modeling.
• Experience in the insurance industry a plus.
