MIG is looking to add an innovative and dynamic Director of Accounting and Financial Planning to lead the accounting team in developing state-of-the-art financial models, economic tools, tax strategies and reporting regimens to keep MIG in the forefront of real estate owners and operators.

As a key member of the senior management team, the Director of Accounting and Financial Planning will report to the Chief Financial Officer and assume an operational role in the overall management of accounting, reporting, financial planning and risk management. The Director will have primary responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the company, as well as working closely with the senior leadership team in implementing strategies and realizing company growth objectives. The Director will be a valued voice on the senior leadership team and will sit on the Investment Committee.

This is a remote role, preferably located in Orange County (California), Dallas, Austin or Denver, with occasional travel for property visits and company events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the company and evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning (i.e., cash flow, growth, investments and risk management).
• Lead strategic execution of accounting, reporting, finance, treasury, tax, audit and strategic planning.
• Implement processes, internal controls and cutting-edge systems that allow MIG to capture and utilize timely and accurate data across the business to make better decisions in an accelerating growth environment.
• Leadership for all financial planning and analysis, including ownership of annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, KPI/dashboard management and innovative data analytics processes that inform the MIG teams on company performance in real time.
• Develop and maintain relationships with external partners that support treasury management, finance, debt and risk management.
• Analyze organizational operations and identify opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, scale and systems enhancements as well as strategic deployment of capital to fund further investments.
• Collaborate with MIG’s technology and leadership teams to build and enhance MIS, AI and data analytics infrastructure while assessing emerging technologies and promoting the use of new technology systems and processes to streamline business functions and reporting.
• Optimize cash flow through forecasting, working capital management and investment analysis.
• Execute a timely monthly close of all financial reporting and publish regular reports internally and externally to key stakeholders.
• Administer banking arrangements, loan agreements, covenant compliance and maintain adequate sources of capital for the company's current borrowings from commercial banks and other lending institutions.
• Establish and maintain all finance and accounting policies and procedures.
• Lead and mentor the accounting and risk management teams.
• Partner with the other senior executives across the company to continue developing our forward-looking company strategy and building a culture of integrity, transparency, discipline, collaboration, accountability and creativity.
• Partner with the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Portfolio Manager on financing strategy, board communications, and corporate development utilizing existing relationships and building new ones across the real estate finance community.
• Partner with all members of the senior management team and other company leadership on short, medium- and long-term business strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Reputation as a highly ethical, strategic, innovative and disciplined financial/business leader.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, CPA and MBA preferred.
• Proven track record as a senior leader with a successful private equity, real estate investment or public accounting firm with a broad base of multiple asset classes, primarily including multifamily and flex industrial; office, retail and hospitality experience beneficial.
• Minimum 15 years of business experience, with at least five (5) years as a senior financial leader with a track record of effective leadership achieving significant investor returns.
• Experience with real estate asset investment, development and operational management.
• Demonstrated talent for recruiting, retaining and developing accounting team members in achieving strategic plan for dynamic growth.
• Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP, accounting, and real estate tax related matters (including 1031 exchanges).
• Reputation for working exceptionally well at all levels of organization.
