Job summary

Vaco is seeking a Director of Accounting in Riverside, CA. This fully onsite leadership role will guide all financial operations, partner with executive management, and provide strategic insights to support growth.

The candidate will lead the Accounting team, ensure accurate reporting, manage cash flow, and oversee budgeting, WIP, and job costing in a construction environment.

Qualifications

• CPA preferred and construction industry experience required.
• Minimum 10–15 years of progressive accounting experience.
• 5+ years of senior accounting leadership experience.
• Strong GAAP, reporting, and budgeting knowledge.
• Proficient with job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion accounting.

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead all financial and accounting operations for a growing construction company. This fully onsite leadership role will partner closely with executive management to provide accurate financial reporting, strategic insights, and financial guidance to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Accounting team
• Oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting (MD&A)
• Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning
• Ensure accurate revenue recognition, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and job costing
• Analyze project financial performance and profitability
• Drive annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes
• Strengthen internal controls, financial compliance, and inventory accuracy
• Partner with Operations and Executive Leadership to improve financial performance and operational efficiency

Qualifications

• CPA preferred
• Construction industry experience required
• 10-15 years of progressive accounting experience
• 5+ years of senior accounting leadership experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Advanced Excel skills
