Job summary

Drew University’s Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) seeks a Director of Accessibility Resources to evaluate documentation and approve accommodations for students with documented disabilities across undergraduate and graduate programs. The role ensures compliance with ADA and Section 504, advising faculty and staff while supporting student success.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in special education, psychology, counseling, rehabilitation administration, or a closely related field.
• Four to ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA; strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Approve and coordinate reasonable accommodations in compliance with ADA Section 504 in consultation with the Associate Provost and Dean’s offices, faculty, and staff.
• Serve as liaison among students, faculty, staff to ensure effective delivery of approved accommodations.
• Organize and deliver faculty, staff, and student development workshops on topics such as learning strategies and universal design.
• Lead the Drew Learning Support Program (DLSP) and the Drew Summer Transition Program; oversee workshop design for students.
• Oversee recruitment for the DLSP and Summer Transition program.
• Supervise Learning Support Specialists who manage a caseload of students in DLSP and Summer Transition."
• Determine policies and procedures for testing accommodations and oversee coordination of requests and proctoring.
• Advise and monitor at-risk students, including referrals by Associate Provost.
• Liaise with external agencies for services to students and staff with disabilities.
• Participate in assessment of Accessibility Resources.

Job description

Summary

The Drew University’s Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is seeking a Director of Accessibility Resources. The Director is responsible for evaluating documentation and approving accommodations for students with documented disabilities enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts, Caspersen School of Graduate Studies, and the Theological School. In providing and determining eligibility for accommodations, this position fulfills the University's legal responsibilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Director collaborates with other CAE staff to support the academic success of students and provides consultation, information, resources, and training workshops to faculty, staff, and students and prospective students and parents as needed. The Director also participates in the University’s Critical Intervention Response Team. This is a 12-month position, reporting to the Associate Provost.

Responsibilities:

• Approve and coordinate reasonable accommodations in compliance with ADA Section 504 in consultation with the Associate Provost and Dean’s offices, faculty, and staff. Maintain and manage confidential data and files pertaining to students with disabilities.
• Serve as liaison among students, faculty, staff (including Health services, Residence Life, Facilities, Campus Security, and Counseling ) to ensure effective delivery of approved accommodations. Act as a consultant to individual students, faculty, and staff to provide effective services. Hear and facilitate informal resolutions to complaints and/or advise students of applicable grievance procedures.
• Initiate, organize, and deliver faculty, staff, and student development workshops on topics such as learning strategies, universal design, disabilities in the classroom, etc.
• Lead the planning and implementation of the Drew Learning Support Program (DLSP) and the Drew Summer Transition Program. Oversee design and facilitation of workshops for students to address needs and enhance opportunities for success.
• Oversee recruitment for the DLSP and Summer Transition program.
• Supervise professional Learning Support Specialists who manage a caseload of students participating in the Drew Learning Support program and who participate in the Drew Summer Transition Program.
• Determine policies and procedures for testing accommodations and oversee student staff who assist with coordination of requests and proctoring.
• Advise and monitor at-risk students, including students referred by the Associate Provost.
• Act as liaison with external agencies in the provision of services to students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.
• Participate in and contribute to the assessment of Accessibility Resources

Requirements:

• Master’s degree (MA) in special education, psychology, counseling, rehabilitation administration, or a closely related field or equivalent
• Four to ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and other applicable laws. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with all constituencies is essential.
