Job Summary

As Director, Mobile Engineering at Impiricus, you'll own the technical direction for both our mobile (iOS/Android) and backend engineering teams, and set the architecture, standards, and processes that the whole engineering group builds on. You'll lead a talented, cross‑functional team of engineers, shape how our mobile apps and backend services are designed and built together, and partner closely with Product, Design, and AI to deliver innovative, high‑quality solutions.

This is an opportunity to build more than an app — you'll build the organization, engineering culture, and technical foundation that will scale with our business, across the full stack. If you're passionate about developing high‑performing teams, driving engineering excellence, and delivering products that make a meaningful impact on healthcare, we'd love to meet you.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow a high‑performing engineering organization spanning mobile (iOS/Android) and backend, responsible for delivering world‑class, reliable products end‑to‑end.
  • Define and execute engineering strategy across mobile and backend, aligning technical initiatives with product and business objectives.
  • Own the group's overall technical architecture — including mobile‑backend integration, API design, and service architecture — ensuring consistency and scalability across the stack.
  • Establish and drive adoption of engineering standards and processes (development, testing, CI/CD, observability, release management, code review).
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, and AI to deliver scalable, customer‑centric experiences across mobile and backend.
  • Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, code quality, operational best practices, and continuous improvement across teams.
  • Build, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers across mobile and backend, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Design secure, scalable APIs, backend services, and high‑performance mobile solutions in an integrated way, rather than as two disconnected efforts.
  • Ensure all applications and services meet the highest standards for security, privacy, reliability, accessibility, and performance.
  • Lead technical planning and execution for strategic initiatives, balancing innovation, scalability, and delivery velocity across the group.
  • Oversee organizational growth, hiring, and adoption of emerging technologies — including AI‑powered capabilities — across mobile and backend.
Experience
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, spanning both mobile and backend/server‑side development.
  • 5+ years leading engineering teams, with experience managing engineering managers and scaling organizations across multiple technical disciplines (mobile and backend).
  • Deep expertise in modern mobile development (Swift/SwiftUI and/or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) and solid backend fundamentals — distributed systems, RESTful/GraphQL API design, databases, and service architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience defining architecture and technical standards at an organizational level — not just within a single discipline — and driving their adoption across teams.
  • Strong understanding of authentication, networking, offline synchronization, mobile security, and application performance, as well as backend scalability, reliability, and security practices.
  • Experience establishing engineering best practices (architecture, code review, testing, CI/CD, release management, observability) that apply across an entire engineering group.
  • Proven ability to influence cross‑functional strategy and partner with Product, Design, and executive leadership.
  • Experience recruiting, mentoring, and developing senior engineers and engineering managers across disciplines.
  • Excellent communication and organizational leadership skills, balancing technical depth and business impact.

The total compensation for this role is $218,500 - $253,000.

Where you land within the range will reflect your skills, experience, and location, while keeping team parity in mind and leaving room for future growth.

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents plus on‑demand healthcare concierge.
  • HSA, FSA & DCFSA pre‑tax savings options with monthly employer contributions to HSA (if enrolled in a high‑deductible plan).
  • 100% paid short‑ and long‑term disability, plus life and AD&D insurance.
  • Flexible vacation policy for flexible time off to recharge your batteries your way.
  • Paid parental leave to spend time with your newborn, adopted, or foster child (available after 6 months).
  • Flexible work arrangement — we encourage in‑office collaboration where possible, but remote is always an option.
  • 401(k) with tax advantages and company match.
