Reporting to the VP of Logistics, this role will oversee a large-scale transportation network and lead carrier strategy, operational performance, and a global logistics team. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with deep international transportation experience, excellent carrier relationships, and a track record of improving cost, service, and reliability in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute international transportation strategies that support growth while improving cost, service, capacity, and reliability.
  • Partner cross-functionally to align logistics strategy with sourcing changes, customer requirements, container utilization, consolidation, and alternative routing opportunities.
  • Negotiate ocean, air, and parcel carrier contracts, rates, capacity, and service agreements.
  • Develop allocation, capacity, routing, and contingency strategies in response to changing demand and market conditions.
  • Support Asia-based operations, allocation, and booking teams through carrier oversight and performance improvement.
  • Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, consolidators, 3PLs, 4PLs, and third-party freight audit providers.
  • Oversee international freight movement from origin through transshipment and final destination.
  • Maintain accurate visibility across quoted, booked, in-transit, and delivered shipments.
  • Proactively identify transportation risks and implement solutions before they impact the business.
  • Manage a high-volume global transportation network of approximately 13,000 containers.
  • Own transit-time performance and lead weekly carrier reviews covering bookings, delays, forecasts, capacity, milestone accuracy, and service.
  • Ensure accurate freight accrual, payment, and transportation reporting.
Performance & Process Improvement
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, SOPs, SOWs, service levels, and carrier scorecards.
  • Hold service providers accountable for cost, service, operational performance, and compliance.
  • Leverage carrier relationships and market knowledge to improve capacity, routing, transit times, and overall network performance.
  • Develop dashboards, metrics, and reporting to improve visibility and decision-making.
  • Standardize and improve logistics processes and operational playbooks.
  • Analyze transportation data to identify risks, efficiencies, cost savings, and service improvements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a global team of 4+ direct reports and supporting staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, customer service, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Develop team members through coaching, mentorship, and clear performance expectations.
  • Build strong relationships across internal teams, carriers, vendors, and logistics partners.
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of international transportation or logistics experience, including at least 7 years in a leadership role within an importer, global organization, or 3PL.
  • Deep experience managing ocean freight, with air and parcel experience strongly preferred.
  • Apparel, fashion, accessories, retail, or other high-volume importing experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience negotiating carrier contracts, rates, capacity, and service agreements.
  • Strong experience managing carriers, freight forwarders, 3PLs/4PLs, and logistics service providers.
  • Experience developing and managing KPIs, SOPs, SOWs, carrier scorecards, and freight audits.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization tools and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • SAP experience is a plus.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, process mapping, or process improvement experience is highly valued.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across global teams, participate in occasional off-hours calls, and travel domestically or internationally up to 10%.

This is a highly visible leadership role with ownership over a complex global transportation network. The Director will have the opportunity to shape carrier strategy, strengthen global logistics partnerships, improve operational performance, develop talent, and drive measurable improvements across the international supply chain.
