Job summary

Harvard Kennedy School Library Services at Harvard University seeks a Director to lead the ongoing evolution of library services, collections, and facilities supporting public policy research and learning.

The role oversees HKS Library operations, including research services, course materials, and space utilization, while aligning with university standards and collaborating across Harvard Library to modernize service delivery.

Qualifications

• ALA-accredited MLS degree or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 8 years of experience in a library management role.
• Demonstrated success in leading a matrixed, decentralized environment.
• Experience managing research-focused library services and data services.
• Strong leadership and collaboration across intra- and inter-institutional levels.
• Budgeting and human resources management experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for library services, collections, and facilities supporting policy research and teaching.
• Lead the HKS Library; oversee collection development, research services, course services, and space use.
• Engage with the HKS community to align resources with evolving needs.
• Collaborate with Harvard Library colleagues to modernize service delivery.
• Direct staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation with a collaborative team.
• Foster internal communication among research programs and library services.
• Build relationships across the university to support research and library strategy.
• Engage in professional networks to advance practices in academic librarianship.
